Child Care Consultation

MVNA provides consultation services and training to licensed childcare centers to achieve healthy and safe environments for children.
MVNA Child Care Consultation Public Health nurses team with over 250 licensed child care centers in the Metro area providing quality services including; health education for center directors, child care staff, parents and children.
Child care centers with preschool and nursery programs receive an Annual Comprehensive Health Assessment, including review of health and safety policies and practices per MN DHS Rule 3. Staff education classes are also offered at a preferred discount rate with priority scheduling.
Child care centers with infants receive Monthly consultation visits. At the site visits, the MVNA Child Care Consultation team observes staff care giving skills and environmental conditions for sleeping, eating and playing.
Monthly consultation visits include teaching and reviewing of:
- Bottle, formula and food preparation
- Proper diapering
- First aid
- Health records review
- Childhood illness care and presentation
- Medication administration
- OSHA and blood borne pathogens (training class)
- Play area safety
- Injury prevention/burns and suffocation
- Sanitation
- Annual Comprehensive Health Assessment, including review of
Health and Safety Policies and Practices per MN DHS Rule 3
Nursing Consultation is available via the Nurse Line Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at no additional charge for those receiving monthly consultation visits.
Staff Education Courses:
- CPR and/or AED training
- First aid training
- OSHA training: Employee Right to Know, Bloodborne Pathogens
- Medication administration
- Playground safety and field trip preparation
